DigitalGlobe company has launched the most powerful commercial imager ever built, the WorldView-3 Earth into orbit.
DigitalGlobe’s images are used by Google and Bing maps, along with a host of other military and civilian applications.
The WorldView-3 spacecraft has an astonishing 1.2 inches (31cm) resolution.
The US Department of Commerce has restricted the distribution of DigitalGlobe’s images for six months giving authorities time to assess any unforeseen issues or images that shouldn’t be made public.
WorldView-3 is basically a telescope with a 1.1m primary mirror pointed at Earth.
Now if only I could get my hands on that kind of optics for my images.
