Join over 13 million viewers of CBS’ 60 Minutes as they go inside the courtroom of Judge Marc Carter for an up-close look at how Veteran Treatment Courts are saving the lives, families, and futures of our veterans.

Justice For Vets is honored to have worked with 60 Minutes and the Harris County Veterans Treatment Court on this story. Harris County was among the first Veterans Treatment Courts in Texas and is an exemplary model of how a community has come together to fight for the health, stability and recovery of their veterans.  This in-depth story is part of our ongoing campaign to educate all Americans about the critical need for Veterans Treatment Courts.

“I commend Judge Carter and his outstanding team for their service to suffering veterans,” said Justice For Vets Director Matt Stiner. “It is critical that Americans understand that there is a solution when veterans return home struggling to reintegrate into civilian life. This story will not only highlight the important work of Veterans Treatment Courts, but it will serve as a call to action for policymakers and the public alike to demand that Veterans Treatment Courts be immediately expanded to serve our heroes on the homefront.”

There are now 95 operational Veterans Treatment Courts in the United States and many more are being planned. To learn more about Veterans Treatment Courts and the efforts of Justice For Vets, visit

  1. The first veterans court was started by Judge Robert Russell in Buffalo, NY in 2008. Judge Russell and his dedicated team of volunteers have helped to train courts, including Houston’s, all over the country since that time. It is a wonderful program.
